Background of the Study
Women’s political participation has long been recognized as a key factor in promoting community development and enhancing social and economic outcomes (Idris & Aminu, 2023). In Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State, women’s involvement in political activities is critical for addressing local issues and contributing to the development of the community (Musa & Ibrahim, 2024). However, women’s political participation is often limited by cultural, economic, and social barriers, which prevent them from fully engaging in the political process (Aliyu & Bello, 2025). This study seeks to assess the relationship between women’s political participation and community development in Potiskum, focusing on the ways in which women’s involvement in politics contributes to policy development, resource allocation, and the improvement of social infrastructure in their communities.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the increasing recognition of the role women play in community development, their political participation remains limited in Potiskum Local Government Area, primarily due to gender-based cultural norms and limited access to political opportunities (Olabisi & Sani, 2023). This study aims to evaluate how women’s political participation, when given the opportunity, can positively impact community development, especially in rural areas like Potiskum, where gender inequalities are pronounced.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
To assess the impact of women’s political participation on community development in Potiskum Local Government Area.
To examine the role of women in shaping local policies and contributing to community development initiatives.
To identify the barriers to women’s political participation and propose strategies for overcoming these obstacles.

1.5 Research Hypothesis

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the relationship between women’s political participation and community development, particularly in rural areas like Potiskum. The findings will inform policymakers, gender advocates, and community leaders about the importance of empowering women politically for the betterment of their communities.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on Potiskum Local Government Area, examining the impact of women’s political participation on local community development. Limitations of the study include challenges in obtaining accurate data from political participants and the potential reluctance of respondents to discuss sensitive political and cultural issues.
